Maharashtra waives mineral royalties to aid flood-hit farmers’ recovery
Maharashtra's Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has announced a relief package for farmers affected by recent natural calamities. The state will provide royalty-free access to minor minerals and free soil, silt, murum, and gravel for repairing infrastructure and restoring eroded agricultural land.
The decision, aimed at helping farmers whose fields were washed away or severely damaged during heavy rains and floods, will allow them to source essential materials without paying royalty charges. This will enable them to repair houses, cattle sheds, farms, and wells, and restore eroded land for cultivation. The Revenue Department has issued an official circular exempting farmers from paying royalty charges for these minor minerals.
The Minister has directed all District Collectors to ensure full implementation of this royalty exemption. Farmers can now access up to five brass of minor minerals, including soil, silt, murum, and gravel, free of cost to restore their fields and infrastructure.
The Maharashtra government's initiative is expected to provide significant relief to farmers affected by natural calamities. By exempting royalty charges and providing free materials, the state aims to help farmers restore their livelihoods and agricultural productivity.
