Jakub Vagner Breaks His Own Record with a Monumental Catfish Catch
Jakub Vagner, a seasoned angler from the Czech Republic, has once again made headlines by setting a new national record for catfish catch. In a thrilling encounter at the Vranov dam, south of Prague, Vagner reeled in a colossal specimen that measured an impressive 2.72 meters.
The news of the catch quickly spread, with images of the gigantic fish going viral on social media. Vagner shared his experience through his Instagram account, recounting the grueling 50-minute battle with the fish.
The previous record, held by Vagner himself, was a 2.64-meter catfish caught at the same reservoir in 2024. However, Vagner surpassed this record by a significant margin with his latest catch, which was initially reported as a new record in August 2025, before being surpassed by the 2.72-meter catch shortly after.
Vagner, 43, described the catch as not just long, but also tall and wide, with the potential to grow even more. The fish was so large that it effortlessly moved his inflatable boat. During the catch, Vagner expressed feeling exhausted, saying he fought for 50 minutes and was half exhausted next to his boat.
Despite the exhaustion, Vagner released the giant fish back into the water after photographing it. He reiterated his commitment to not killing the fish he catches, hoping they will continue to grow. The catfish, according to Vagner, was a beautiful fish, almost perfect.
The catch was made using a specially designed rod for catching fish of this size. Vagner stated that catching big fish is not just a matter of passion, but also of morale, dedication, and determination.
The new record marks the latest and largest record for Czech catfishing. It's a testament to Vagner's skill and dedication, and a source of pride for the Czech angling community. With this catch, Vagner continues to set the bar high for catfish anglers worldwide.
