Solingen Mayor Extends Sympathy to Magdeburg Following Christmas Market Attack

In the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attack at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, on December 20, 2024, the people of Solingen and their mayor, Tim Kurzbach, have expressed their deepest sympathy for the victims, their families, and the entire city of Magdeburg.

Five people, including a nine-year-old child, lost their lives in the attack, while over 200 visitors were injured, some critically. The perpetrator, a 50-year-old Saudi national named Taleb Jawad al-Abdulmohsen, acted alone and was charged with six counts of murder, 338 counts of attempted murder, and numerous counts of bodily harm.

Mayor Kurzbach, in a message of sympathy, identified himself as the sender and expressed his thoughts on the situation. "I can only imagine how Magdeburg must be feeling after this horrific attack," he said. "Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the emergency services who worked tirelessly during this crisis."

He also mentioned that Solingen itself had experienced an attack during their city festival this year, and he could relate to the pain and shock that Magdeburg is currently experiencing.

In times of crisis, churches in Solingen have opened their doors to provide support, and Mayor Kurzbach encouraged the people of Magdeburg to seek solace and comfort in their places of worship.

The heavy question of why and how the attack occurred remains unanswered, but the people of Solingen are united in their thoughts and prayers for the people of Magdeburg.

Mayor Kurzbach expressed his sympathy to Mayor Simone Borris of Magdeburg, hoping that the people of Magdeburg will find strength and resilience in the face of this tragedy. He closed his message by saying, "We are thinking of and praying for all the people in Magdeburg during this difficult time."
