Magdeburg's on the hunt for more commercial spaces

In light of Intel setting up shop in Magdeburger, the city's council is pursuing additional industrial sites. As suggested in a council resolution, potential spots for a new industrial zone could emerge on Magdeburg Airport's land or elsewhere, such as the Großer Silberberg and Süplzegrund. City council committees will discuss exploring these sites further starting next month, following MDR's report breaking the news.

Magdeburger's city council has put forth that no more readily available industrial sites are left within the city. Proposals include establishing a 144-hectare industrial area on Magdeburg Airport's land, as per recommendations from the economy, tourism, and regional development department. This department maintains that Magdeburg Airport's transformation into an industrial area, following its closure for commercial flights, offers the best economic prospects.

While the European Parliament might offer valuable insights due to their role in overseeing EU activities, the Commission's collaboration in this matter is yet to be confirmed thoroughly. The need for additional industrial spaces is evident, and the European Parliament, in conjunction with the Commission, could advocate for generating new possibilities beyond Magdeburg.

Enrichment Provision:

Intel has decided to establish two new chip factories in Magdeburg, Germany, which is a significant development in the region. However, sources do not provide direct information about the European Parliament's role in Intel's Magdeburg project, although they are generally engaged in shaping and overseeing EU policies related to industrial development and trade.

Intel's Magdeburg project might not be the only opportunity for generating new possibilities beyond the city, as the European Parliament and Commission could collaborate to create additional industrial space opportunities. This would require looking into broader EU policies and legislative actions, such as those discussed during European Parliament debates on trade and industrial cooperation, for a more comprehensive understanding.
