FC Magdeburg Bolsters Defence with Loan Signing of Max Geschwill
- FC Magdeburg has announced the signing of central defender Max Geschwill on loan from Holstein Kiel. The 24-year-old, born on July 7, 2001, is set to make his mark at the club.
Geschwind's career has seen him rise through the ranks, with stints at Dynamo Dresden and 1. FC Nürnberg's reserves before making a name for himself in the lower divisions of German football. His recent move to the Bundesliga with Kiel last season, where he made 19 appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists, has further solidified his reputation.
The new recruit is eager to contribute to FCM's development. Head coach Markus Fiedler, who believes Geschwind's strong left foot will bolster their central defence, expressed his delight at the signing. "We're delighted to have Max on board," he said.
Geschwind's journey in football began with VfL Mainhardt, SG Mainhardt/Michelfeld/Bibersfeld, and TSG Hoffenheim (2013-2020), where he honed his skills in the youth leagues. He then moved to TSG's men's team in 2020, playing in the Regionalliga Südwest until 2023, making a total of 60 appearances and scoring three goals with two assists.
In the summer of 2023, Geschwind joined SV Sandhausen, where he played in 27 third-tier games, scoring two goals. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with Otmar Schork, sporting director of 1. FC Magdeburg, expressing confidence in his ability to further stabilize and strengthen their defence.
Geschwind will wear the number 28 jersey at FCM. Speaking about his move, he said, "I'm excited to join FCM. The club has a rich history and fantastic fan support." His enthusiasm is shared by Schork, who highlighted Geschwind's recent Bundesliga experience. "Last season, Max played 19 Bundesliga games for Holstein Kiel, demonstrating his high quality," he said.
With Geschwind's addition, FC Magdeburg looks poised to strengthen its defence ahead of the new season. The defender, who has also played in the UEFA Youth League, featuring in eight games (two goals, one assist), is eager to make his mark at his new club.
Max Geschwind, having played in the UEFA Youth League, intends to apply his skills in football leagues across Europe, aiming to contribute to FC Magdeburg's defense, particularly in the upcoming European-leagues season.
Eager to play a part in crucial matches, Geschwind endeavors to use his Bundesliga experience from his time at Holstein Kiel to bolster the team's performance in sports, particularly football, from Magdeburg.
