Maeva Squiban clinches career's most significant win in Tour de France Femmes stage 6 with a 32km individual assault
Maëva Squiban, a French professional cyclist, made a spectacular debut at the 2025 Tour de France Femmes, winning not one but two stages with bold solo attacks. On Stage 6, Squiban, who rides for UAE Team ADQ, embarked on a 32km solo move that held off chasing riders on challenging climbs, securing a celebrated victory in the Massif Central region.
Squiban's victory in Stage 6 was not a one-off occurrence. On Stage 7, she once again demonstrated her fearless and strong competitive spirit, attacking early and finishing solo, further cementing her status as a formidable contender in the race's mountain stages.
The 2025 Tour de France Femmes marked significant breakthroughs for Squiban in a high-profile race. Her aggressive racing style, ability to sustain long solo escapes in mountainous terrain, and rising prominence in women's professional cycling were all on display during these stages.
On Stage 6, Squiban crested the top of the Col du Chansert a minute ahead of the peloton. She extended her lead on the climb to the bonus sprint in Valcivières, where she was 1:21 minutes ahead of the chasing pack. Despite FDJ-Suez leading the chase, they were unable to close the gap, allowing Squiban to secure a commanding victory.
Twenty riders formed a breakaway early in the stage, including Squiban's teammate Brodie Chapman, Élise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez), and several other notable competitors. Juliette Labous (FDJ-Suez) was the runner-up on Stage 6, while Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) led the sprint for third place, beating Lorena Wiebes (Team DSM) to the finish.
Niamh Fisher-Black (Lidl-Trek) suffered a mechanical on the descent, losing over two minutes on the other GC contenders. Chabbey took maximum points on the Côte de Courpière and again on the Côte d'Augerolles, further bolstering her lead in the mountain classification.
Le Court-Pienaar extended her lead in the general classification by 8 seconds, and she kept the yellow jersey after Stage 6. The race continues to be a closely contested battle among the top contenders.
