Festival Time in the Urals' Capital: "Dennis Matsuev Presents..."

The spotlight shines on the Urals capital once more as the "Dennis Matsuev Presents..." festival unfolds, marking a major event in the season of the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic. Known as one of the region's most prestigious projects, this year's festivities receive backing from Governor, Dennis Pasler.

This year's lineup boasts top-tier musicians from across the nation, with Denis Matsuev taking center stage. On June 7, Matsuev graced the festival with two orchestras of the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic—the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra (UYSO)—led by Dmitry Filatov. The trio had also performed together in Moscow's "Zaryadie" hall and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic earlier this year. With the UYSO celebrating its coming of age, Matsuev serves as a mentor figure, affectionately guiding the young musicians.

Matsuev's involvement with UYSO extends beyond his stature as an Honorary Patron of the Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra. Speaking about the stellar youth ensemble, Matsuev highlighted the importance of having a vibrant creative environment in one city.

The festival's opening attracted Governor Dennis Pasler, who applauded Matsuev's dedication to fostering young talent and the festival's ability to bring together renowned performers and fresh faces on one stage.

On June 8, Matsuev showcased a chamber program filled with works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Dmitry Shostakovich, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Joining him on stage were Russian cellist Alexander Ramm, violinist Stefania Pospekhina, and the Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra.

In the final day, just before the concert, Matsuev shared his thoughts with media outlets, reminiscing on the successful festival and expressing delight in the golden moments he believes they'll all remember for a long time.

For the concluding event, Matsuev and the Ural Academic Philharmonic Orchestra chose the Third Piano Concerto by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This piece marked the beginning of Matsuev's friendship and affiliation with the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic and Yekaterinburg, a bond that has endured for 26 years.

Matsuev also emphasized the importance of nurturing young talents in the region, with memories of his initial meeting with Governor Pasler in 2015 and the rise of jazz musician Volodya Koshelev in Nizhny Tagil still fresh in his mind.

Emotions ran high as Matsuev spoke about his late mentor, his father, and his experiences learning the Third Concerto with him at the age of 12. With a deep sigh, Matsuev quickly left the room, regaining his composure before taking the stage once more to play the Rachmaninoff piece, proving time and again that the third concerto remains his definitive legacy.

As of now, details regarding the scholars of the "New Names" Charitable Foundation named after Yvetta Voronova for the year 2025 are not readily available. Keep an eye on official announcements to stay updated on the foundation's activities and future scholars.
