Madonna's Long-Standing Solo Release Secures Top Spot on Sales Chart After 4 Decades
Pop icon Madonna has once again made a splash in the music industry, as her reissued track "Dress You Up" has returned to the UK charts four decades after its initial release. The song, originally a commercial success in the UK, peaked at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart in 1985, and it has now made a comeback in 2025.
The reissue of "Dress You Up" includes new remixes, 12" mixes, and features the iconic live performance from Madonna’s 1985 Virgin Tour, which had previously been used as the song's official music video. This resurgence in chart activity highlights the song’s lasting appeal.
"Dress You Up" has secured spots on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales rankings, arriving at Nos. 93 and 97, respectively. This demonstrates the song's enduring popularity and the enthusiasm of hardcore Madonna fans who purchased enough copies of the new digital release to make it a chart hit on tallies that didn't even exist when the song was first promoted.
This isn't the first time Madonna has sent multiple tracks to purchase-only rankings throughout her career. In 2025, she has also sent both "Live to Tell" and "Gone Gone Gone" onto the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts.
Meanwhile, Madonna's latest full-length, Veronica Electronica, remains on two U.K. charts for a second week. The album, which holds at No. 1 on the Official Dance Albums roster, has fallen from No. 3 to No. 41 on the Official Album Downloads tally.
Two other Madonna compilations, Finally Enough Love and The Immaculate Collection, also appear on one list each in the U.K.
Despite not releasing anything entirely new in 2025, Madonna has managed to maintain her presence in the music industry, with "Dress You Up" becoming a bestseller in the United Kingdom.
As Madonna continues to reissue older tracks, turning them into collectibles and chart wins, fans can look forward to more of her iconic music making a comeback. The pop icon is currently working on new material and developing a biopic, ensuring that her legacy will continue to shape the music industry for years to come.
