Madonna calls upon Pope Leo XIV to make a trip to Gaza prior to imminent harm
In the ongoing conflict in Gaza, pop icons Madonna and members of the band U2 have joined voices with faith leader Pope Leo XIV, urging for action to save the innocent children from starvation.
Madonna, known for her humanitarian work, has been vocal about the dire situation in Gaza, asking everyone to lend a hand. Her plea is particularly motivated by her son Rocco's birthday, as she believes the plight of the children in Gaza resonates deeply with her.
Pope Leo XIV, who has previously called for an immediate end to the war in Gaza and a peaceful resolution to the conflict, is the focus of Madonna's plea. The pop icon believes that the Pope, due to his influential position, could be the only one who cannot be denied entry into Gaza. However, as of August 2025, there is no public record of Pope Leo XIV having responded directly to Madonna’s plea or making plans to visit Gaza for humanitarian purposes.
U2, a prominent music group, has also spoken out against Israel's actions in Gaza. Bono, a member of U2, has personally condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government, accusing them of inflicting brutality on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. His bandmates, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton, have also expressed their concern, with Mullen Jr. stating that starving innocent civilians as a weapon of war is inhumane and criminal, and Clayton asserting that preserving civilian life is a choice in this war.
The situation in Gaza is dire, with over 18,000 children reported dead over the last 22 months according to UNICEF, and an average of 28 children a day being killed. These shocking figures have led to concerns being raised by UN human rights experts and UN bodies, with suggestions that Israel's military actions in Gaza may amount to genocide. The International Court of Justice has also found claims of genocide in Gaza plausible.
Israel, however, denies a famine is taking place or that children are starving in Gaza. Despite these denials, the pleas for help from Madonna, Pope Leo XIV, and U2 continue to echo, hoping to bring attention to the plight of the children in Gaza and inspire action towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
