Madison Cawthorn Launches Florida Congressional Bid After 2022 Loss

Madison Cawthorn, a former Republican party congressman from North Carolina, has filed paperwork to run for Florida's 19th Congressional District. The seat is being vacated by GOP Rep. Byron Donalds. Cawthorn, who served one term marked by controversies, announced his decision in an interview with Fox News.

Cawthorn, who was elected in 2020, will not be the only political transplant in the race. Jim Oberweis, a former Illinois state senator, is also running. Despite facing criticism for discussing visiting Adolf Hitler's vacation home and making controversial statements about colleagues' sexual activity and drug use, Trump endorsed Cawthorn for re-election in 2022. However, Cawthorn lost the primary to state Sen. Chuck Edwards, who was backed by the Republican establishment.

Cawthorn's decision to run again comes after the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk. He was recently arrested for failing to appear in court over a traffic violation. As of now, there is no specific list of individuals supporting his candidacy for Florida's 19th Congressional District.

Madison Cawthorn, a former Republican party congressman, is launching a congressional comeback bid in Florida. He will face competition from other political transplants, including Jim Oberweis. Despite his past controversies and Trump's endorsement, Cawthorn lost his re-election bid in 2022. His decision to run again follows the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
