Machakos relinquishes 20 acres to Football Kenya Federation for a technical training facility
A Major Leap Forward in Kenyan Football: The FIFA-Funded National Technical Center in Machakos
Kenya's football landscape is set for a significant transformation with the development of a national technical center in Machakos City. Funded by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to the tune of Sh600 million, this modern football training center will be the largest of its kind in the country [1][2].
The Machakos County government has generously contributed a 20-acre piece of land in the heart of new Machakos City for this ambitious project. The facility will be constructed in five phases and will include a football complex, accommodation facilities, administration blocks and offices, a players' training institute, three International standard pitches, and a FIFA International Training Center [1].
The center will be a hub for nurturing young talents, with a specific focus on under-13 and under-16 teams. It will serve as a crucial springboard for developing and improving technical skills across Kenyan football [1].
Governor Wavinya Ndeti expressed her pride in hosting this facility, stating that it will attract both local and international tournaments, thereby boosting sports tourism in Machakos County [3]. Once complete, the facility will also serve as the headquarters of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) in the country [4].
FKF President Hussein Mohammed described the project as a "game-changer" for Kenyan football, signaling a commitment to elevating the sport domestically to align with global football development trends [1]. This commitment is evident in the improved national team performances, such as in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) [5].
In addition to the training facilities, a level six hospital is being constructed next to the center, offering world-class treatment for any injuries that might arise [6]. This private wing will ensure an almost instant response to any player or fan requiring medical attention.
The development of this national technical center is a significant step forward in Kenya's football development, promising top-tier infrastructure for talent development, coaching, and technical training. This will undoubtedly strengthen the sport's foundation and international competitiveness.
