Macabro 2025 Unveils Terrifying Software Developments

The 24th edition of the Macabro International Horror Film Festival is set to return to Mexico City from August 19 to August 31, 2025. This year's theme, "Hotel Macabro," will see the festival focusing on hotels and buildings as iconic horror cinema settings.

The festival will feature over 100 films from countries including the US, Argentina, Spain, Italy, and Mexico. Among the international films, "Catch a Killer," "Succubus," "The Mission of Light," and "Three," the first horror film directed by a woman in Saudi Arabia, will be showcased.

On the Mexican front, new horror proposals include "Don't Leave the Children Alone," "They Were Witches," "#Rats," and "The Dark." Notable mentions also include "HOWL," which will be screened from August 20 to 30, and "The Devil on the Road," featuring Luis Alberti, set at the dawn of the 20th century.

Macabro 2025 will also venture outside Mexico City, visiting the States of Mexico, Puebla, Guanajuato, and Oaxaca. The festival's screenings and activities will take place at various venues such as Casa del Cine MX, the Cinematograph of El Chopo, the Pantheon of San Fernando, Cinemania, FAROS Cosmos and Oriente, the Centro Cultural España, and the recently recovered Victor Manuel Mendoza cinema.

The Vasconcelos Library and the recently announced venue, the Centro Cultural del Bosque, will also host Macabro 2025 events. The festival aims to open the window for people to discover national genre films, as the commercial release is often complicated.

Edna Campos, director of the festival, stated that Latin American horror is experimenting and coming up with interesting things, no longer just copying Hollywood cinema. As part of this, the festival will feature "Mutamorphosis," the first film of its genre made entirely with Artificial Intelligence.

In addition to the film screenings, Macabro 2025 will include a retrospective titled "Fantásticos del CCC," celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. The festival's activities beyond the cinema halls, called "Terror fuera de la sala," will offer a variety of thematic activities.

Detailed daily schedules and the full list of participating films will be available on the official Macabro website and social media channels as the festival progresses. For updates on program highlights and special events, stay tuned to the official Macabro channels.
