Maag Halls Win Protection, Swiss Prime Site Vows Appeal
The Administrative Court has ruled that the Maag Halls deserve protection, a decision that Swiss Prime Site Immobilien AG finds unsatisfactory. The company has announced it will appeal to the Federal Court.
The Maag Halls, a historic complex in Zurich, have been at the centre of a long-standing dispute. Swiss Prime Site Immobilien AG had sought permission to demolish the Lichthalle Maag, Maag Theater, and the 1971 office tower to make way for a high-rise. However, the Administrative Court has now decided that the Maag Halls are worthy of protection, rejecting the company's plans.
The Hamasil Foundation had appealed the building permit on grounds of heritage protection. The Administrative Court's decision aligns with the foundation's stance. Swiss Prime Site, however, is not ready to accept this outcome. The company has confirmed it will appeal to the Federal Court, seeking to overturn the decision.
The Maag Halls' future remains uncertain. While the Administrative Court's decision offers them temporary protection, Swiss Prime Site's appeal to the Federal Court could potentially reverse this ruling. The outcome of this legal battle will significantly impact the future of the historic Maag Halls complex.
