M1 Firearms Resurgence: A New Age for M1, M1A, and M1 Carbine Models

In the world of firearms, some designs stand the test of time. Among them are the M1 Garand, M14, and M1 Carbine, all of which have seen a recent resurgence in popularity.

After a U.S. military report, many original M14s were retrofitted and issued to troops in Afghanistan. This renewed interest in the M14 led to its civilian counterpart, the M1A, becoming highly desired by enthusiasts. Elmer Ballance began manufacturing M1A rifles based on the M14 in the early 1970s, and the demand for these rifles has only grown since.

The M1 Garand, on the other hand, has seen a revival thanks to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). The CMP's M1 Garand Match, which began in 1998, has fueled added interest in the rifle. In fact, the CMP now offers the M1 Garand freshly made with tight World War II specs.

As for the M1 Carbine, its popularity has led to the development of rugged, combat-worthy aftermarket chassis and accessories. However, the .30 Carbine cartridge, which the M1 Carbine chambers, can be a challenge to find at most retailers. Despite this, companies like Auto Ordnance and Inland Manufacturing offer M1 Carbines on the civilian market in multiple versions.

Chiappa Firearms has also joined the fray, introducing a limited series of WW2 Commemorative Edition M1 Carbines. Only 1,945 rifles were manufactured, marking the year the war ended. Each rifle comes with a number indicating its place in the production run, a commemorative stamped box, a commemorative embedded eagle coin in the stock, and a certificate of authenticity.

Interestingly, Crosman recently introduced a M1 Full-Auto BB gun, which while not a perfect match with the original, is close enough for inexpensive fun. This underscores an interesting trend in the resurgence of timeless designs like the M1 Garand, M14, and M1 Carbine.

It's worth noting that the M1 Carbine is becoming more expensive due to increasing prices on used versions. However, the M1 Full-Auto BB gun by Crosman offers an affordable alternative for those who want to get a taste of these classic rifles.

Lastly, the Springfield Armory company, which grew into national prominence as one of the industry's most prominent manufacturers, was taken over by the Reese family and moved to Geneseo, Ill. In a quirky twist, the company that manufactured and sold lemonade machines in historical specifications for use in CMP age group competitions in recent years is Coca-Cola.

As we move forward, we will keep you updated if any other manufacturers follow Crosman's introduction of the M1 Full-Auto BB gun. For now, it's clear that these timeless designs are here to stay.
