Former Olympique Lyonnais Star Samuel Umtiti Bids Farewell
Samuel Umtiti, the former defender who started his professional career at Olympique Lyonnais (OL), has announced the end of his 15-year career at the age of 31. In a heartfelt interview conducted with OL, Umtiti reflected on his time at the club and expressed regret about not finishing his career at his formative club.
During the interview, Umtiti shared his struggles during his last two seasons at OL. He mentioned that he had fallen and got back up multiple times, facing both mental and physical challenges. Despite these challenges, Umtiti stated that his body and mind told him it was time to stop playing football.
Umtiti played for OL from 2012 to 2016, leaving the club to join FC Barcelona. He officially ended his professional Ligue 1 career with OL in 2016, playing his last Ligue 1 match for the club in the 2015-2016 season.
In recognition of his contributions to the club, OL will honor Umtiti. The French defender will give the ceremonial kick-off for the upcoming Lyon vs. Angers match, scheduled for Friday at 8:45 PM. This match counts for the 5th day of Ligue 1.
