Luzon 2025 Exploration Tour Commences
Let's Dive into the Thrilling Tour of Luzon: Great Revival
Rolling out in the breezy town of Paoay, Ilocos Norte, the revitalized Tour of Luzon commenced on a balmy Thursday, following the electric opening ceremony the previous day.
Popularly named "Great Revival," this cycling tour features a competitive gang of 119 cyclists hailing from 17 mighty teams, ready to tackle the grueling 1,074.90-kilometer race!
Things kick off with the thrilling 190.70-kilometer Paoay-Paoay Stage 1 on Day 1, leading to the adrenaline-pumping 68.39-kilometer Paoay-Vigan team time trial Stage 2. The action-packed event continues on Vigan-San Juan Stage 3, Agoo-Clark Stage 4, and Clark-Clark Stage 5, followed by Clark-Lingayen Stage 6, the nail-biting 15.14-kilometer individual time trial Labrador-Lingayen Stage 7, and finally, the Queen Stage 8 - a nail-biting 172.53-kilometer from Lingayen to the Scout Hill finish inside Camp John Hay in Baguio City.
Prepare for some aerial acrobatics during a special flyby at the New Clark City, where an Executive Race will be staged in an out-and-back route in Clark on April 27.
To close the MacArthur Highway from Barangay Tabun to Barangay Lakandula, a portion will be shut down on April 27 from 10:30 to 11:30 am, allowing the connecting pieces to fall into place.
It's an all-out showdown at the top with PhilCycling-registered UCI continental teams such as Standard Insurance Philippines, Victoria Sports Pro Cycling Team, 7-Eleven Click Roadbike Philippines, and Go For Gold meeting fierce competition. These powerhouses are joined by dedicated local teams like the Philippines Under-23 Tom N Toms, Excellent Noodles, DReyna Orion Cement, Dandex T-Prime Cycling Team, Exodus Army, MPT Drive Hub Cycling Team, 1 Team Visayas, and One Cycling Mindanao.
Four Iron-Whoa teams from afar, including CCN Factory HK from Hong Kong, Malaysia Pro Cycling, Bryton Racing Team from Taiwan, and Gapyeong Cycling Team from South Korea, join the fray to stir up the Philippines' racing landscape!
The Tour of Luzon: Great Revival was dreamt up by DuckWorld PH partnering with Metro Pacific Tollways last year, with hopes to seize numerous untapped possibilities for the cycling community in the Philippines and re-establish the Philippines' mark on the cycling map.
Riding a wave of triumphant cycling victories past, The Tour of Luzon is a renowned professional road bicycle race boasting various names throughout the years, including the Tour of Luzon (1955 - 1976), the Marlboro Tour (1979 - 1998), the Tour of Calabarzon (2002 - 2007), the Le Tour de Filipinas (2009 - 2019), and, finally, the Tour of Luzon: Great Revival.
The 2020 iteration, acclaimed by its organizers as the 11th modern-day Le Tour de Filipinas, was put on hold due to the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic. A pedal-pounding roster of legendary champions, including Cornelio Padilla, Jr., Jose Sumalde, Victor Espiritu, Santy Barnachea, Arnel Quirimit, and Wong Kam-po of Hong Kong, who made history as the first non-Filipino to win the event in 1997, have graced its courses in previous years.
