Luxurious Ride and Humble Pocketbook
In the world of cinema, there are films that stand out for their unique style and unconventional themes. One such film is "Blues - Love, Murder, and Jealousy," produced by FilmOlaf Möller and directed by Jean Josipovici. This film, released irregularly by Josipovici, is a pleasant peculiar hybrid of crime and music, set against the backdrop of Swinging Schwabing meets Ruhrpott nonchalance.
The film, a rare gem, will be screened at Filmclub 813 on June 26, 2025, as part of issue number 7/2025.
Another intriguing find from the past is "The Mad Cap Bums with Cadillac and Beggar's Sack" aka "Come into the Bathtub, Honey," directed by Michael Geimer. This film, a mix of Swinging Schwabing laissez-faire and sympathetic Ruhrpott nonchalance, was discovered by Oase-Film GmbH in Essen. However, further details about this film, including its release date and whether it was actually made, are not readily available.
Michael Geimer, a filmmaker with an unconventional career path, only made one more feature film after "The Mad Cap Bums with Cadillac and Beggar's Sack" - the pornographic "Sock It to Me, Baby" in 1976. Geimer, the nephew of theater titan Gustav Gründgens, is also associated with the high-profile case involving Samantha Geimer (née Gailey) and Roman Polanski in 1977, but there is no connection found between her and this film.
In a different realm of cinema, we find "The Sons of the Trinity," a meta-meta farce directed by Osvaldo Civirani. This film, released in 1972, is a parody of a parody, making fun of the proletarian united front of Italian cinema. It particularly parodies Italowestern genre figures such as Django and Sartana.
Lastly, "All for One - Punch for All," directed by an unknown filmmaker, is a lesser-known adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' "The Three Musketeers," released in 1973. This film, unlike the others, buries the original story rather than resurrecting forgotten gems.
In the constant pursuit of uncovering hidden treasures in the world of cinema, these films serve as a testament to the joy in the absurd and the beauty of the unconventional.
