Luxembourg Airport Expects Another Passenger Record - Luxembourg Airport Hits 5.3 Million Passengers in 2025, Eyes 10M by 2050

Luxembourg Airport has witnessed steady growth in passenger numbers, reaching a record 5.3 million in 2025. The hub now serves over 120 destinations worldwide and is preparing for further expansion. By 2050, officials predict annual passenger figures will more than double to over 10 million.

The airport's rise has been rapid. In 2022, it handled 1.48 million travellers, but by 2024, that number had climbed to 5.1 million. The following year saw another increase, with 5.3 million passengers passing through.

Most visitors come from neighbouring countries, particularly France and Germany. Many travel over 100 kilometres to use the airport, drawn by its connections and low-cost carriers like Ryanair and Luxair. While exact breakdowns by nationality are not published, estimates suggest 60–70% of passengers originate from these two nations, as well as Belgium, the UK, and Italy.

Despite the growing passenger numbers, flight movements have slightly decreased. In 2019, there were 60,500 take-offs and landings, but by 2025, that figure dropped to 58,500. The decline is partly due to higher aircraft occupancy rates and the use of larger planes.

To accommodate future demand, the airport has announced a €1 billion investment plan by 2032. Modernisation and expansion projects are already underway. Projections for 2026 suggest passenger numbers will reach 5.7 million, continuing the upward trend.

Luxembourg Airport is expanding its capacity to meet rising travel demand. With €1 billion earmarked for upgrades, the facility aims to handle more than 10 million passengers annually by 2050. The growth reflects its increasing role as a key transport hub for the region.
