Lukas Reichel makes Boston debut as Bruins face Jets in key matchup
The Winnipeg Jets are set to face the Boston Bruins on Thursday night after a narrow 4-3 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators in their last outing. The game will mark the Boston debut of forward Lukas Reichel, who was recalled from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis.
Reichel, acquired at the trade deadline in March 2026, has shown strong form since joining the Bruins organisation. In just three games with Providence, he recorded five points—one goal and four assists—after managing only two goals and three assists in 14 games earlier this season with the Vancouver Canucks. His recall comes as the Bruins sit in the first wild-card position in the Eastern Conference with 82 points.
The 23-year-old will slot into the third line alongside Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie, replacing Mikey Eyssimont, who will be scratched for the matchup. Meanwhile, Jeremy Swayman will start in net for Boston, while the Jets will look to bounce back after their recent shootout defeat. For Winnipeg, Mark Scheifele continues to lead the team with 83 points (31 goals, 52 assists) in 67 games. Pavel Zacha also enters the game on a three-game point streak, contributing three goals and an assist during that stretch. On defence, Andrew Peeke will remain paired with Nikita Zadorov on the third pairing. This will be Reichel's first appearance since Cole Koepke, another former Bruins player, signed with the Jets as a free agent in July after the 2024-25 season.
Reichel's recall and immediate insertion into the lineup reflect his recent improvement in the AHL. His performance could influence Boston's push for a stronger playoff position. The Jets, meanwhile, will aim to regain momentum after their shootout loss, with key contributors like Scheifele and Zacha leading the way.
