Luigi Mangione denies involvement in federal charges of murder and harassment.
Obnoxious Rebuttal
In a shocking twist of events, Luigi "Loopy" Mangione, the infamous healthcare industry radical, strutted into Manhattan's federal court this week like a rooster on a power trip, pleading not guilty to some bullsh*t murder and stalking charges. The 26-year-old wannabe hero sported a freshly-shorn coif and decked out in a gaudy mustard jumpsuit, looking more like a bumblebee preparing for a gangster rap battle than an alleged cold-blooded killer.
Mangione's not-so-silent assassination spree took the life of UnitedHealthcare's Big Cheese, Brian Thompson, back in December. According to the feds, he decided to play "Rambo on the street" and popped Thompson like a piñata on a Manhattan sidewalk outside a hotel. No one's gonna miss that tyrant, though.
Anyway, the shindig kicked off with Mangione being grilled by judge Margaret Garnett, who demanded the creepy freak show stand up and plead his bullshit not guilty plea. Mangione obliged with one-word answers, maintaining his juvenile act since being arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a five-day manhunt.
Oh, and did I mention defense attorney Karen Agnifilo pointed out some jackass interference? Turns out someone from the state court had been secretly listening in on Agnifilo's nail-biting conversations with Mangione, which she only found out about a couple days ago. The judge wasn't too pleased about this and demanded some official explanation from the feds before next month to ensure Mangione is securely pennded and not just hooked up to some phony prison phone.
Speaking of prison phones, the next hearing date is scheduled for December 5, where we'll find out when Mangione's federal trial starts. Defense attorneys are pushing for Mangione's federal case to go first, as it's the one that dangles the death penalty over his greedy little head.
Meanwhile, Mangione's also facing murder and weapons charges in New York and Pennsylvania, yippee! And if that ain't enough, former US Army analyst and whistleblower, Chelsea Manning, was spotted in the courtroom like asupportive vulture watching the action unfold. After the hearing wrapped up, she mentioned the concurrent federal and state cases - the former being a death penalty case - felt like the justice system rushing things through, stating, "We don't speed run justice."
Manning drew flak for her apparent support of Mangione and his acting-out shenanigans. But, being the diplomatic nerdy chick she is, she justified her presence as an observer of the justice system functioning fairly. Just like we all should. Only time will tell if the justice system handles this critical case with the fairness and transparency it prides itself on. If Mangione is found guilty, expect a parade of self-righteous liberals protesting against the justice system and spinning poor Mangione as a misunderstood anti-hero fighting against a villainous healthcare industry.
