Julia Ruhs, a well-known figure in German public broadcasting, will no longer be hosting the show "Klar" on Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), following an internal decision by the station. The change was announced jointly by NDR and Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) on Wednesday.

Ruhs, a young conservative face of public broadcasting, has been a critical voice on migration policy and has authored the book "Left-Green Opinion Power - The Division of Our Country". She is also a columnist for the magazine "Focus", where she frequently addresses societal political topics from a conservative perspective.

However, her tenure at NDR has been marked by controversy. Anja Reschke, another NDR presenter, labelled the format moderated by Ruhs as "a bit right-wing extremist", for which the station later apologized. Entertainer Jan Boehmermann has also criticised Ruhs' work, calling it "right-wing populist nonsense".

The decision to part ways with Ruhs comes after significant internal criticism of her work at NDR. According to reports, over 250 colleagues opposed her critical journalism approach, leading to the decision by the NDR itself. However, the broadcaster has not confirmed nor denied the existence of a letter with 250 signatories distancing themselves from the show "Klar".

Ruhs and her "Klar" team are deeply disappointed and shocked by the personnel changes at NDR. She herself has referred to the decision as a "disgrace". The future of the jointly produced show by NDR and BR is unclear, with each broadcaster bringing in their own episodes to solidify the format.

Despite the changes, NDR and WDR still intend to stick to the format's approach of addressing contentious issues controversially debated in society. Ruhs, on the other hand, will continue to host shows for Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR).

The "Spiegel" described Ruhs as "controversial" in a recent portrait, reflecting the divisive nature of her work in public broadcasting. Regardless, Ruhs remains a significant figure in German media, with her opinions and views continuing to spark debate and discussion.
