Ludhiana: Allegedly Submitted Falsified Drug Test Results; International Shooter Among Two Caught in Scandal

Take a look at the latest buzz! It seems international shooter, Gurnihal Singh Garcha, residing in Model Town, along with another city dweller from Sahnewal Kalan, Lalit Kumar, have been charged with submitted fabricated doping test reports to acquire firearm licenses. Reports surfaced from the division number 5 police station, following complaints filed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Licensing) Rajesh Sharma.

This revelation has caused ripples through the sporting and arms licensing communities, especially given the status of the accused sportsman. The shock factor? One of the alleged offenders is an internationally recognized sportsperson!

Gurnihal Singh Garcha had applied for a firearm license renewal, but during the review of his papers, ACP Sharma spotted inconsistencies on the doping test report submitted. When the report was cross-checked with Ludhiana Civil Hospital, the authorities confirmed that the test was never conducted, and the signature of the doctor responsible appeared on the report when he was on leave at that particular time.

Lalit Kumar, a driver-cum-security guard from Suniara Wala Mohalla, Sahnewal Kalan, was also found guilty of submitting a fabricated doping test report while applying for a new firearm license. Yet again, hospital authorities confirmed that no testing was conducted under his name, and the signatures and stamps on the submitted report were fake.

The police have invoked several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the alleged offenses, including 318(4) (cheating), 336(2) and 336(3) (forgery and use of forgery for cheating purposes), 340(2) (use of forged documents), and 341(2) (possession of counterfeit seals with intent to forge documents).

ACP Sharma highlighted the gravity of the case, particularly in incidents involving firearms. "False documentation, particularly for obtaining weapon licences, is a major security concern. The involvement of a prominent figure such as a professional shooter not only violates the law but also sets a dangerous precedent."

Gurnihal Singh Garcha's notoriety as a sportsperson, who represents the country in numerous shooting events, has brought added attention to the case. Police officials stated that even though respect is due to sports achievers, they too must face the law's consequences when guilty of misconduct.
