Lucas Beckman joins Saguenéens after blockbuster QMJHL trade recovery
Goaltender Lucas Beckman has joined the Chicoutimi Saguenéens after a December 2024 trade from Baie-Comeau Drakkar. The move follows weeks of recovery from mononucleosis, which sidelined him since late November. Now fit, he is eager to compete for a starting role with his new team.
The trade sent Beckman to Chicoutimi in exchange for Xavier Daigle, Mathias Hernandez, a first-round pick in the 2028 QMJHL draft, and Shawinigan’s 2026 second-round selection. Over three seasons with Baie-Comeau, he played 95 QMJHL games, recording a .905 save percentage and a 4-14-3 record.
Beckman will now battle Raphael Precourt for the starting goaltender position. He believes a strong tandem can push the team forward, pointing to Moncton’s successful duo last season. With one year of junior eligibility left, he will travel with the Saguenéens for a three-game road trip to Halifax, Charlottetown, and Moncton from January 15 to 17. His return follows a lengthy absence due to illness. After missing nearly two months, he is ready to prove himself in Chicoutimi’s net.
The trade gives Chicoutimi two experienced goalies vying for the top spot. Beckman’s arrival adds depth as the team prepares for the second half of the season. His performance in the coming weeks will determine his role in the Saguenéens’ plans.
