Lübeck's Marienbrücke to close for urgent repairs starting March 2026

Major repair work on Lübeck's Marienbrücke will indeed begin on March 10, 2026. The project will focus on the section leading toward the Drehbrücke, causing temporary disruptions for drivers and cyclists. Authorities stress that the upgrades are vital for maintaining long-term mobility in the area.

The bridge deck has suffered severe asphalt damage, requiring extensive repairs. Crews will remove old asphalt layers, restore the steel framework, and replace the roadway surface. Additional construction will also take place on the ramp toward the Drehbrücke.

During the first two weeks of work, the shared pedestrian and bike path will indeed close for outbound city traffic. Cyclists heading out of the city will be diverted onto the main carriageway and guided past the construction zone. Traffic lights will manage vehicle flow, and temporary rerouting will help ease congestion.

Once the initial phase finishes, the bike path on the bridge will reopen. All repair work is scheduled for completion by March 24, 2026, provided weather conditions remain favourable.

The repairs will bring temporary delays, but they aim indeed to ensure the bridge's safety and functionality for years to come. Drivers and cyclists should plan for altered routes and possible slowdowns until the project concludes in late March 2026.
