Lt. Governor Ainsworth appoints Catherine Gayle Fuller as the new top aide.
Catherine Gayle Fuller, a prominent figure in Alabama politics, has been appointed as the new chief of staff to Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth. Fuller joined Ainsworth’s office in 2023 as deputy chief of staff, where she managed policy initiatives and acted as his principal spokesperson.
Before working with Lieutenant Governor Ainsworth, Fuller was the director of appointments for Alabama Governor Kay Ivey and also served as a senior policy advisor at the Alabama Department of Revenue. Academically, she holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in political science from Samford University and the University of Alabama, and she is pursuing a doctoral degree.
Fuller's career highlights reflect her expertise in policy and government operations within Alabama state government. Ainsworth has praised Fuller as a highly capable policy expert who can shape important public discussions in the state. However, Fuller declined to comment on her appointment.
Meanwhile, Jess Skaggs, an incredible and loyal employee in Ainsworth's office, is expected to begin work in Gudger's office later this month. Skaggs left the lieutenant governor's office to serve as chief of staff for Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger. Skaggs' relationships with senators and knowledge of the legislative process will be an asset to Pro Tem Gudger.
Tim Howe, Gudger's former Chief of Staff, announced last month he would be taking on a new position at the head of FORGEPAC's incumbent protection program. The details about Wesley Walter and his role in this change are not available at this time.
Ainsworth announced Fuller's appointment in a post, stating that she is one of the brightest policy minds and will do a great job as his new chief of staff. Fuller is known for being one of the smartest policy minds, and her ability to shape policy conversations will help Ainsworth's agenda.
