Sebastian Walter, chairman of the opposition party The Left, accused Lange of fan-the-flames with this public presentation of an official statistic, leading to stigmatization and prejudice.
In a contrasting stance, Uwe Adler, the SPD's interior policy spokesman in the state parliament, applauded Lange for commissioning the State Criminal Police Office to reassess the figures based upon the original criteria. "In the future, as it has always been in previous years, an error-free compilation of the PKS will be demanded again," Adler stated.
The CDU's interior politician, Rainer Genilke, reasoned that the ratio articulates little about the genuine crime situation. "None of the essential components of the crime statistics required amendment," Genilke cautioned against being unduly alarmist.
