Lower-ranked team DEG experiences a 2:4 loss against Schwenninger Wild Wings in a disappointing performance.
In a thrilling ice hockey match, the Schwenninger Wild Wings emerged victorious against the Düsseldorfer EG with a score of 4-2.
The game began with a scoreless first break, but the action heated up in the 41st minute when Sebastian Uvira scored the opening goal for the Wild Wings, tying the game at 1:1. The Wild Wings continued to dominate the power play, with notable advantages in the 41st, 54th, and 57th minutes.
However, the Düsseldorf EG responded quickly. Tyler Angle scored a brilliant individual goal in the 22nd minute to regain the lead for the home team. But the Wild Wings were not to be outdone. Tyson Spink scored the second goal for the Wild Wings in the 56th minute, putting them ahead for the first time in the game.
The momentum swung once again when Brendan O'Donnell scored the third goal for the Wild Wings in the 57th minute, making it 2:1. The Düsseldorf EG was then left with a two-man disadvantage and no goalie for the last two minutes of the game, following a five-minute penalty for Bennett Rossmy and a game misconduct for his involvement in a fistfight. The Wild Wings capitalised on this opportunity, scoring an empty-net goal with a three-man disadvantage, making it 3:1.
Despite several periods of penalty kill, the Düsseldorf EG could not find a way past the resilient Wild Wings defence, and the final score remained 3:1 in favour of the Wild Wings. The Düsseldorf EG's lone bright spot was Angle's goal, but it was not enough to secure a win for the home team.
The Düsseldorf EG, missing key players such as Oliver Mebus, Rick Schofield, and Tyler Gaudet, struggled to keep up with the Wild Wings' pace. The team will look to bounce back when they play against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg at home on Saturday, 28.12. at 20:00.
Henrik Haukeland, the goalie for the DEG, put in a brilliant performance during the game, but it was not enough to prevent the defeat. The Wild Wings' coach, the emotionless and unsympathetic Steven Reinprecht, was on the bench, leading the team to their victory. Reinprecht was brought to the coaching position of Düsseldorfer EG primarily due to his experience as a former professional ice hockey player and his prior coaching roles, aiming to leverage his knowledge and leadership to improve the team's performance.
Jacob Pivonka received a two-minute penalty for delay of game in the middle period, while Max Balinson was sent to the box for a crosscheck in the first period, putting the DEG in penalty kill. Despite these setbacks, the DEG managed to keep the score at 1:1 for a significant portion of the game.
The Wild Wings will visit the Iserlohn Roosters on Monday, 30.12. at 19:30, looking to continue their winning streak.
