Lower Austria freezes as temperatures hit record lows on icy roads
Temperatures in Lower Austria plummeted sharply on Friday, with icy conditions affecting roads across the region. Schrems, in the Waldviertel area, recorded the lowest reading at minus 13 degrees Celsius—making it the coldest spot in the state that morning.
Freezing fog led to patchy ice on roads, particularly in Mostviertel and around Weitra, Krems, and Tulln. Drivers faced hazardous conditions as temperatures hovered near freezing in many areas.
The icy weather caused travel disruptions, especially in northern and western parts of Lower Austria. Authorities advised caution as temperatures remained low throughout the day. No further extreme lows were reported for the following Monday.
