Colombian-American singer-songwriter Kali Uchis has taken a personal journey over the past year, becoming a mother and losing her own mother, experiences that are profoundly reflected in her latest album, Sincerely. This fifth studio album, out now, showcases a deeply emotional side of Uchis, as she brings her listeners into her world today, focusing on her son and family.

Sincerely moves away from the vibrant mix of sounds and rhythms seen in Uchis' previous English album, 2023's Red Moon in Venus, and towards ballads and heartfelt emotional tracks. The shift becomes clear with singles like "Sunshine & Rain..." and "ILYSMIH," and later on songs like "Heaven Is a Home...," "For: You," and "Daggers!"

Following the release of three albums in three years, Uchis mentioned in an interview with Angie Martinez (IRL podcast) that she's figuring out how to spend her time moving forward. "I'm in a place where I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to dedicate myself to after this besides my son," she said, expressing her feelings about the burdens of selling and promoting her work.

"I'm just really excited that I finally wrapped this album. I'm finally able to close this chapter of my life and kind of move forward into whatever is the next [thing]."

While Uchis discussed her feelings about the public aspects of music, she made it clear that her passion for creating music remains undiminished. "I love making music. I love making art. I love creating," she said, emphasizing that she doesn't care for the limelight. "That's my outlet. I just naturally, when I'm [going through] whatever I go through, I feel like it's part of what I am to use my art and whatever it is that I make to kind of get through whatever it is that I'm going through, and make some type of beauty or whatever pain or whatever stresses. It's my relief."

When asked how she managed to finish Sincerly while dealing with new motherhood and personal tragedy, Uchis responded that creating music is "second nature" to her. "That's part of who I am," she stated matter-of-factly. "It's like breathing to me."
