Love Entanglements Unraveled: Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner Navigate a Romantic Triangle in 'Eternity'

In early September 2025, David Freyne's latest directorial venture, "Eternity," made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada. The film, co-written with Patrick Cunnane, stars Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, Callum Turner, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, among others.

The movie tells the story of Joan, a woman who, in an afterlife where souls have one week to choose where to spend eternity, faces an impossible choice. She must decide between her first love, Luke (portrayed by Callum Turner), who died young and has waited decades for her, and her devoted husband, Larry (Miles Teller).

The afterlife in "Eternity" is depicted as a unique blend of a train station and a doctor's waiting room. Despite its perfect appearance, flushed cheeks and teary eyes serve as simple yet poignant reminders of the pain associated with Elizabeth's choice. The palette of the afterlife suggests a world where everything is ideal, but the emotions of the characters make it all the more real.

The romantic conflict between Larry and Luke over who Joan will spend eternity with forms the crux of the story. The supporting characters, played by Da'Vine Joy Randolph and John Early, offer a bit of petty office politics and much of the film's exposition. Randolph plays the role of Larry's afterlife counselor, Anna, who becomes invested in Joan and Larry's predicament. Early portrays Ryan, a rival afterlife counselor, who is waiting 67 years to see Luke and Joan reunited.

The uniforms of the supporting characters, beige suits with white button-downs and a red tie, provide a sharp comedic contrast to the vibrant colours of the afterlife.

"Eternity" delivers a charming parody of romantic comedies without mocking the viewers who love them. The film offers a fresh take on the genre, exploring the romantic ideal of love against its everyday reality.

The movie will be opening in theaters on Nov. 26, providing audiences with an opportunity to witness this unique blend of comedy, romance, and drama. "Eternity" is a must-watch for fans of Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner, as well as anyone who enjoys a good romantic comedy with a twist.
