Los Angeles Marks the Global Premiere of "BAKERU" Exhibition and Live Stag Dance Spectacle in Hollywood on July 17th

The creative studio WOW, based in Tokyo, Sendai, London, and San Francisco, is bringing the world-debut interactive exhibition "BAKERU: Transforming Spirits" to Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles. This exhibition, running from July 17 to October 6, showcases the connection between long-lasting folk traditions and fast-advancing digital technology.

BAKERU: Transforming Spirits invites visitors to step into the supernatural world of Japanese folk traditions from Tohoku, using motion capture technology. The exhibition is participatory, allowing guests to become projected characters wearing special masks and participate in several festival scenes.

The space occupied by our website Los Angeles spans two floors at Hollywood & Highland, with the 2nd floor featuring a gallery space and the 5th floor hosting a Japanese restaurant, relaxing library, and event venue, along with spectacular views of Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles.

In addition to the main exhibition, Los Angeles will host a series of related programs starting July 17. These programs include a complimentary celebratory live Deer Dance Performance at Hollywood & Highland, Academy Awards Stairs area at 2:00 p.m.- 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Special Shishi-Odori (Deer Dance) performances by traditional dance groups from Japan will take place at the historic Academy Awards stairs at Hollywood & Highland on July 17 at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The BAKERU Mask Making Workshop will take place from July 26 to September 15, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at our website Sub-Gallery, Level 2. The fee for the workshop is $5.

The collaborative effort behind BAKERU: Transforming Spirits is made possible through partnerships with various organisations, including ANA (All Nippon Airways), Panasonic, Gyouzanryu Maikawa Shishiodori, Tokyo Shishiodori, Oga City, Baba no Taue Odori Preservation Society, FabLab Sendai FLAT, Fukunaga Print Co., Ltd., cap LLC., Ito Yutaka, tateito-yokoito LLC., Tohoku Standard, and Hollywood & Highland.
