The city center of Los Angeles is breathing a sigh of relief as the curfew is to be lifted after a tumultuous week. Mayor Karen Bass announced the news, praising the efforts taken to protect local businesses and residents. However, she emphasized that the situation remains fluid, and a new curfew could be imposed if needed, "as we tread through the tumultuous times rolling in from Washington," she said.

The unrest in Los Angeles stems from ongoing protests against the immigration policies of the US government. Starting from Los Angeles, these demonstrations have intensified across several cities, with heated debates revolving around President Donald Trump's authoritarian approach and mass deportation activities.

A Nation Divided: Millions Protest Against Trump's Policies

Last weekend saw the largest protest wave against Trump's policies to date. Over 30,000 people gathered in downtown Los Angeles alone, according to the mayor, with millions participating in over 2,100 cities nationwide. The protests, largely peaceful, were marked by criticism of Trump's stance on immigration and calls for more compassionate policies.

In support of immigration authorities, the Pentagon has deployed military personnel in several states, including California, to assist with administrative and logistical tasks in detention facilities for deportation. However, these personnel are not involved in direct measures, and their goal is to alleviate ICE officers of bureaucratic tasks[4].
