Lörrach proposes first library fee hike and rule updates since 2017

The city of Lörrach is set to update its library fees and borrowing rules for the first time since 2017. The changes come as costs rise and services expand, with new rates planned for memberships, loans, and family passes.

Under the revised structure, annual adult membership will go up from €20 to €25. Discounted rates will increase from €10 to €13, while partner and family passes rise from €35 to €45. The adjustments also cover individual borrowing fees for media, though specific figures have not yet been released.

The new rules introduce clearer loan periods and modernised wording. Borrowers will now have the option to extend loan terms twice, a change from previous policies. Additionally, certain media services will be bundled into the annual membership fee. The city council will vote on the proposals on March 26, 2026. If approved, the updated fees and regulations will take effect on April 15, 2026. Officials estimate the changes will bring in an extra €28,000 each year.

The fee revision marks the first adjustment in nearly a decade. Higher membership costs and updated borrowing rules aim to support the library's growing services. The final decision rests with the city council's vote next March.
