Looting of stones from Sada Pathor investigated, report submitted to District Commissioner's office
Report Submitted on Illegal Stone Extraction in Sylhet's Bholaganj
A committee's report on the looting of stones from the 'Sada Pathor' area in Sylhet's Companiganj upazila has been submitted, but the findings remain undisclosed. The report was submitted to the deputy commissioner's office in the afternoon of August 20.
The investigation commission, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Padmasan Singha, found evidence of unauthorized stone extraction and plundering in the 'Sada Pathor' area, implicating local officials and contractors in illegal activities.
The probe body was formed by the outgoing DC, Sher Mahbub Murad, on August 12. The committee consisted of Companiganj UNO Azizunnahar and Department of Environment Assistant Director Afzalul Islam. However, Azizunnahar's inclusion in the probe body sparked criticism due to his failure to prevent the looting of stones.
DC Murad was made Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and the UNO was transferred on August 18, shortly after the submission of the report, which coincided with his departure from the office at noon. The newly appointed DC, Md Sarwar Alam, is scheduled to join the office tomorrow.
In addition, a case was filed by the Bureau of Mineral Development against 1,500 to 2,000 people over the looting of stones. The report's details are yet to be disclosed, but the submission of the report confirms the ongoing investigation into the matter.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Padmasan Singha confirmed the submission of the report to our website, but the findings are yet to be made public. The public awaits further information regarding the report's findings and the actions to be taken against those implicated in the illegal activities.
