Embrace the beautiful things - they're always there

What truly matters? What hits home now and sticks around tomorrow? These are the elements that have resonated with humans since our existence: Joy, love, family, companionship, time, stress, loneliness, goodbyes, grief.

When should you take stock? Whenever you feel like it. Perhaps today, on this typical autumn day. Reflecting on your own life occasionally is a rewarding practice.

On this particular day, I reflect. What forms my identity? Honor your father and mother. As you age, you realize just how integral they are to you. And how integral your own offspring will become. Have your dreams come to fruition?

Louis Hagen, columnist for BILD

As a youth, I owned a tin toy, a remote-controlled "Distler-Porsche". It brought me joy for many years. Much later, it was a balcony, from which I could gaze over the pine forests near Lucca in Tuscany. I was there with my family. That was my joy.

Embrace the beautiful things, they're always there. Life is for living, that is its purpose.

With these words, I bid you farewell, dear readers.

I shared with you heartfelt stories that you responded to:

The midwife who refused to stop assisting in the birth of new lives.

The couple who met 40 years ago in a supermarket parking lot and are still in love today.

The doctor who spent the night in a caravan outside her practice to be closer to her children.

I was privileged to share my feelings and experiences with you for nearly five years. Thank you for that.

It was an honor.

Autumn's vibrant leaves sparked a reevaluation of my life as an advisor, recognizing the worth of cherished memories such as playing with my remote-controlled toy car and treasured moments with my family on the balcony overlooking the pine forests. The column of moving accounts shared by readers, like the midwife, couple, and dedicated doctor, reminded me of the importance of appreciating life's simple moments and cherishing our loved ones.

As I move on from this column, I will carry these lessons with me, always searching for and cherishing the beautiful things that Autumn, and life, bring.
