Longtime advocate against RCMP sexual harassment, Catherine Galliford, passes away at the age of 58.

In a career marked by bravery, dedication, and resilience, Corporal Catherine Galliford left an indelible impact on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the nation as a whole. Galliford, who passed away at the age of 58 due to liver cancer, was a high-profile officer who represented the RCMP on significant cases, including the Air India bombing and the investigation into serial killer Robert Pickton.

Galliford's tenure was not without its challenges. She bravely sued the RCMP for sexual harassment, a move that ultimately led to a class action suit and brought much-needed attention to the issue within the force. As a result, more than $100 million was paid to sexual harassment victims in the RCMP.

Former RCMP officer and British Columbia MLA Elenore Sturko recalled attacks on Galliford and described her as one of the best in her field. Sturko, who considered Galliford to be a very courageous police officer, went on to praise Galliford as one of the best spokespersons the RCMP ever had.

Despite battling post-traumatic stress disorder and agoraphobia, Galliford continued to support Pickton's victims' families. Her courage and determination were evident as she spoke at an inquiry into the Pickton killings.

Politician Jenny Kwan, a British Columbia MLA, publicly supported Galliford and condemned the attacks against her. Galliford's lawsuit and the subsequent class action suit brought about change within the RCMP and served as a beacon of hope for many who have faced similar challenges.

Cpl. Catherine Galliford's legacy will continue to inspire and remind us all of the importance of standing up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. Her bravery and dedication will never be forgotten.
