Lone Bey Figure Headed to Omsk, Siberia from Novosibirsk
Entrepreneur. Athlete. Adventurer: Meet Ivan Kartashov and His Unconventional Solo Journey
Hailing from Biysk, Russia, Ivan Kartashov is a man on a mission. With a spirit for exploration and a heart full of courage, he's embarking on an extraordinary solo journey—a paddleboard trek to Novosibirsk, spanning over 370 kilometers (approx.) along the Ob River.
Preparing for an early departure on May 4, Ivan plans to reach the Siberian capital within 12 days, armed with grit, determination, and a paddleboard. Recently, he shared his inspiring story and the detailed preparation for this groundbreaking adventure with a "BR" correspondent.
At the heart of Ivan's motivation is a burning desire to pay tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. In honor of their sacrifices, he'll be carrying digital portraits of war participants, provided by the people of Biysk, to lay a collage at the Glory Monument in Novosibirsk upon completion of his journey.
To tackle the challenges of this 230-mile (approx.) trip, Ivan undergoes rigorous physical training, focusing on endurance and strength to paddle for extended periods tirelessly. He carefully equips himself with a durable, efficient paddleboard, high-quality paddles, and a host of safety, camping, and navigation gear.
Siberia's unpredictable weather is a significant concern. While the headwind poses the greatest challenge, Ivan has marked high sandy banks on the map as potential places to stay. With regular river training and reliable equipment, he aims to tackle obstacles effortlessly.
Despite the criticism he's received online, Ivan remains steadfast in his endeavor. Although he won't depend on much help during the journey, he extends an invite to like-minded individuals to join him along the way. By land transport, Ivan plans to return home once the journey concludes.
This extraordinary adventure from Biysk to Novosibirsk promises to be a thrilling blend of physical challenge, personal growth, and environmental appreciation.
On a side note, Ivan is also planning an off-road adventure in a classic "Lada" car—but that's another story for another time!
