London-based soccer team Arsenal reportedly on the verge of announcing new signing
Arsenal have officially announced the signing of 21-year-old defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia, with the deal set to run until June 2030. The centre-back, who primarily plays as a right-sided centre-back, has signed a five-year contract, with an option for an additional year. The transfer fee is an initial €15 million (£13 million), which could potentially rise to around €20 million with add-ons.
Mosquera, who has made 90 appearances for Valencia and is considered one of the brightest young defensive talents in Europe, has joined Arsenal's squad currently touring in Singapore. The club and player have welcomed the move, with Mosquera expressing confidence in his career progression at Arsenal.
Mosquera's signing is part of Arsenal's summer transfer activity, and he is expected to compete for first-team opportunities alongside established defenders William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. Arsenal's sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta were involved in the negotiations, which concluded before Mosquera flew out to join the team.
Mikel Arteta is eager for Mosquera to settle in, get to know his new teammates, and start absorbing tactical instructions as soon as possible. An interrupted pre-season can have negative consequences on a player's start at a new club, so a quick resolution is desired.
The delay in the official announcement of Mosquera's transfer is due to administrative issues, not medical concerns. Mosquera has been in London for a week, awaiting the completion of his paperwork. The resolution of the technicality causing the delay is expected in due course.
Arsenal have also signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, and Martin Zubimendi this summer. The Gunners' pre-season schedule includes matches against AC Milan, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and two more unspecified teams in London.
Despite the delay in the official announcement, Arsenal fans should not worry, as the admin team at the Emirates is expected to resolve the issue soon. Once the paperwork is completed, fans will have the opportunity to see Mosquera in action. According to Transfermarkt, Mosquera is valued at €30m.
