Lola Tung and Christopher Briney explain Steven's annoyance towards Conrad in the show 'Never Have I Ever's spin-off 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'

In the heartwarming and dramatic finale of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty,' Lola Tung and Christopher Briney, who play Belly and Conrad respectively, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the dynamics between their characters and Belly's older brother, Steven, played by Sean Kaufman.

Kaufman's portrayal of Steven in the final season saw him displaying aggressive behaviour towards Conrad, rooted in family tensions and protective instincts towards Belly. The specifics of his actions were intricately connected to the conflicts surrounding family secrets and emotional struggles involving Conrad, Belly, and other characters.

Tung and Briney agreed that fans might find Steven's behaviour towards Conrad harsh, but both actors believe that his actions stem from his deep love and protection for Belly. Tung clarified that Steven wasn't angry with Jeremiah due to a lack of knowledge about the Lacie Barone situation, which occurred much later.

Kaufman humorously added that he looks out for Belly almost more than anybody else. He joked about his interactions with Briney, stating that their on-screen rivalry might have spilled over into their real-life conversations.

The Lacie Barone situation transpired the night before Belly's wedding, and Steven hadn't seen Conrad in four years before the events of the final season. Briney also mentioned that Steven and Conrad have a history of honest communication, suggesting there is room for understanding in their interactions.

As for the future of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty,' the series is planning to release a film focusing on the romantic reconciliation of Belly and Conrad. Fans can look forward to seeing more of their favourite characters in the upcoming film.
