TSV Havelse secures the final spot in the German professional football league as they defeat 1. FC Lok Leipzig 3-0 after three mind-blowing goals and three player dismissals in overtime.

The North Regional League champions stole the show with substitutes Julius Düker (95'), Marko Ilic (110'), and Lorenzo Paldino (113') scoring the winning goals. The dramatic match took a turn for the worse as players from both teams received their marching orders. Tobias Dombrowa (80') and Luc Elsner (118') from Lok Leipzig were shown the yellow-red card, while Pasqual Verkamp (116') and Paldino (115') following the latter's celebratory tantrum, earned red cards.

A Tight Battle, but Havelse Takes the Lead

With a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Havelse dominated the game, coming close several times. Besfort Kolgeci (30') hit the post after a free kick from 20 meters, and Julius Düker's (49) header missed the mark due to an offside position. Lok improved in the latter stages of the second half, but Djamal Ziane (65') missed the best chance, saving Havelse in the final phase (79').

Post-game, Lok supporters made it clear about their disagreement with the promotion/relegation system via a banner reading, "Abolish the promotion/relegation system." Chants of "Champions must be promoted" could be heard around the stadium, showcasing the strong sentiment behind the support of an overhaul in the promotion system.

Controversy surrounds the promotion system in the 5th tier of German football, with over 20 clubs seeking changes to the current arrangement with the annual general meeting in November[1].

Currently, champions of the West and Southwest divisions are directly promoted, while the North, North-East, and Bayern divisions compete in a promotion/relegation playoff. This season, MSV Duisburg (West), TSG Hoffenheim II (Southwest), and 1. FC Schweinfurt (Bayern) secured their spots in the 3rd division as direct promotions.
