Lockdown at Naval Academy Lifted: Investigation of Threat Conclusion with One Person Injured in Incident

In an unexpected turn of events, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis found itself in the midst of an incident on Tuesday afternoon. Local and state law enforcement conducted an extensive search of the Naval Academy grounds following reports of suspicious activity.

According to reports, threats were made to the prestigious academy. The threats were allegedly made by a former midshipman who was recently dismissed from the academy. As a result, the academy was placed on lockdown for several hours, causing concern among students and staff.

Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Naval Academy Board of Visitors, was in Annapolis when she heard about the lockdown. She quickly expressed her concern for the safety of students on campus and praised the efforts of first responders, doctors, and nurses at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

One Midshipman was injured during the clearing of a building. Thankfully, the individual is in stable condition, and authorities have confirmed that the name of the former midshipman who repeatedly made threats against the U.S. Naval Academy is not publicly disclosed.

In response to the incident, Congresswoman Elfreth called for reflection and unity in the face of the nation's current state of violence. She referenced the Midshipmen's motto, "Don't give up the ship," as a call to action. The Congresswoman is committed to working with state and local leaders, the leadership of the U.S. Naval Academy, and her colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee to ensure the safety and security of the Midshipmen.

As of 12:17 a.m., the lockdown has been lifted, and the U.S. Naval Academy has been given the all clear. The Congresswoman expressed her gratitude for the swift and effective response from law enforcement and emergency services.

In light of this incident, Congresswoman Elfreth also expressed her concern over the recent increase in gun violence and political violence. She reiterated her commitment to working towards a more peaceful and secure future for all Americans.

This is a developing story and more information will be released as it becomes available.
