Two Local High School Basketball Teams to Compete in CIF-SS Championship Games

On Friday, February 19, 2025, two local high school basketball teams will be vying for championship titles in the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS). The Cerritos High School girls basketball team will face Mark Keppel High in the Division 3AA championship game, while La Mirada High girls basketball team will battle Pilibos High in the Division 4A championship game.

Cerritos High School's Journey to the Championship

The Cerritos High School girls basketball team has had an impressive run this season, winning nine straight games and 12 of its last 13 contests. The Matadores, co-champions of the Prep League, have not lost since December 28.

The probable starters for the game include seniors Ambar Multani and Miya Scammahorn, juniors Cameron Lacorte and Mady Macaraeg, and sophomore Kalana Nguyen. Cerritos head coach Marcus Chinen attributes the team's success to the hard work of the players.

Mark Keppel High's Impressive Streak

Mark Keppel High is also in the championship game and has won 15 straight games. Two top players for Mark Keppel that Cerritos will focus on are Keira Kamida and Maile Tamaki.

La Mirada High's Championship History

La Mirada High is the Mid-Cities League champions and is no stranger to playing for a divisional title. The Matadores are back for the fifth time in the championship game, all coming since 2008. Half of La Mirada's games have been decided by a goal with the team going 7-6 in those games.

The Boys Soccer Championship Game

In addition to the basketball championship games, the Division 7 boys soccer championship game will feature Pasadena Poly High and John Glenn High.

Pilibos High's League Finish and La Mirada's Playoff Victories

Pilibos High is located in the Little Armenia neighborhood and finished in third place in the Liberty League. La Mirada has posted playoff victories over #23 Mayfield High, #7 South Pasadena High, #31 Beaumont High, and #30 Redlands East Valley High.

Glenn High's Soccer History

Glenn has had six winning seasons since the 2001-2002 campaign and has gone through 11 head coaches in the past 27 seasons. Luis-David Enciso is in his third season as the head coach and has a record of 28-32-7.
