Local Softball Players from the Region Miss Out on Winning the Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship

At the 15th annual Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championships, several teams from Long Beach and Southern California demonstrated impressive performances, but ultimately fell short of securing titles.

One of the standout players was Angelyna Conde, a recent La Mirada High graduate, who played for the Garden Grove West Coast Lady Dukes-Blanco team. Conde had a stellar tournament, finishing with 19 hits, 11 RBI, six doubles, five runs, three walks, and striking out once in 39 at-bats. She was one of the hottest hitters for the West Coast Lady Dukes-Blanco, with a batting average of .487.

In one game, Conde went two for four with a run batted in. In another, she had a double, scored a run, and drew a pair of walks. She also had an impressive performance against the San Diego Breakers Lab, where she had another double for her only hit in four at-bats as her team edged the Breakers Lab 3-2.

Other notable players from Long Beach included Choyce Chambers and Aubrielle Ramirez, both from Valley Christian High, who were playing for the Long Beach USA Athletics-RML 16-Under team. Chambers contributed offensively with several hits and RBIs throughout the tournament. In one game, she went one for three with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

The USA Athletics-RML 16-Under team reached the finals of the Premier Division A bracket but lost 1-0 to Nebraska Gold. Subsequently, they were eliminated from the tournament after a close 5-4 loss to Sacramento Lady Magic-Munoz.

Isabella Gonzalez, a Gahr High pitcher, represented the Long Beach USA Athletics Gold-Rogers 18-Under squad. Although her team did not secure a championship, Gonzalez had a solid outing in a bracket semifinal, allowing two hits, a run, and walking three while striking out two. However, she did not pitch in the game that led to her team's elimination from the tournament.

Rachel Zhang, another Valley Christian High student, was playing for the Redondo Beach USA Athletics-Phillips/Lehr 18-Under team. Zhang had a mixed performance in the tournament, going two for four as the designated player in one game, but was hitless in three at-bats in another.

Meanwhile, V.C. catcher Peyton Kingery and her team, BSC Bengals-Briggs 18-Under, were eliminated from the Premier Division B bracket. Mya Laroya, former Gahr outfielder, did not have an at-bat in her team's first game. Malaia Huskey, Gahr High's pitcher, did not play as her team, Explosion Premier, lost their first game. Zoe Corrales, Cerritos High's player, was hitless in a pinch hitting role in her team's first game.

Bettie Mae Acevedo, La Mirada pitcher, walked two batters in her team's first game. Conde chose Texas Tech University because of the academics and the coaching of Gerry Glasco, who had a successful first season at Texas Tech University, advancing to the NCAA Woman's College World Series.

In the 12 games played in the tournament, including the three pool play contests, Conde had a remarkable performance. She finished with 19 hits, 11 RBI, six doubles, five runs, three walks, and striking out once in 39 at-bats. Zhang, on the other hand, had a solid pitching performance, starting four games this season and winning two of them. In nine games, she has pitched 21 innings, allowed 25 hits, seven earned runs, struck out 17 batters, and walked a dozen. Offensively, she has batted .380 with 30 hits, scored 22 runs, drawn 10 walks, had three doubles, and driven in a pair.

As the 15th annual Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championships continue, it's clear that these players from Long Beach and Southern California have shown great promise and potential. Despite not securing the championship titles, their performances have been noteworthy and promising for the future.
