- Local politician Beoen secures position as leading figure in Baden-Württemberg region
The race for the Baden-Württemberg state election, scheduled for an undetermined date next year, is heating up as various parties announce their candidates for Minister-President.
In a significant move, the CDU has nominated Manuel Hagel as their lead candidate. Hagel, currently serving as the CDU's state and faction leader, is a strong contender, having been instrumental in the party's success in the region.
The Greens, currently in power in a coalition with the CDU, have also announced their top candidate. Cem Özdemir, a former Federal Minister of Agriculture, has been elected as the Greens' lead candidate. Özdemir, a well-known figure in German politics, has also declared his candidacy for Minister-President.
The SPD, another major player in the election, has chosen Andreas Stoch as their top candidate. Stoch, a seasoned politician, will be vying for the top position in the election.
The AfD, a controversial party, has elected Markus Frohnmaier as their candidate for Minister-President. However, other parties in Baden-Württemberg have excluded cooperation with the AfD, making Frohnmaier's chances of becoming Minister-President uncertain.
The polls predict a close race among the parties. The CDU is predicted to win the election with 31% of the vote, followed closely by the Greens with 20%. The SPD is predicted to receive 10% of the vote, while the AfD is predicted to come in third place with 19%. The Left and the FDP are predicted to receive 7% and 5% of the vote, respectively.
The BSW, another party in the region, is predicted to likely fail to clear the 5% hurdle with 4% of the vote. Re-entry into the state parliament for the FDP is also uncertain with their predicted poll value of 5%.
It is important to note that the current Minister-President, Winfried Kretschmann, is not running for re-election. Kretschmann, a Green politician, has been in office since 2011, ending the CDU's almost 60-year reign in Baden-Württemberg.
The election campaign for the Baden-Württemberg state election is currently ongoing. After the election, the state delegates' assembly will determine the next Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg.
In addition to Baden-Württemberg, four other state parliaments will be newly elected next year: Rhineland-Palatinate on March 22, Saxony-Anhalt on September 6, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin on September 20.
This upcoming election promises to be a significant event in German politics, with various parties vying for power in Baden-Württemberg. The results of the election could have far-reaching implications for the region and the country as a whole.
