Local Government Units (LGUs) in Cagayan Valley region identified as areas of concern by Commission on Elections (Comelec)
In a chat with Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, it's been revealed that several local government units in Cebu and Bohol have been flagged as "areas of concern" by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). According to Comelec Director Francisco Pobe, five regions in Region 7, including the cities of Mandaue, Daanbantayan, Dalaguete, Argao, and San Miguel in Bohol, have been categorized as "yellow," which historically signifies potential political unrest.
In the yellow category, these areas face a history of political corruption. To address this, the police and military are being deployed to these regions to maintain security and ensure the smooth running of the elections.
In a press conference on Saturday, April 26, 2025, Maranan announced that they will be present at the Regional Joint Security Control Center meeting, scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2025, alongside the Comelec and Armed Forces of the Philippines.
In these meetings, the Local Joint Security Control Center (LJSCC) will further discuss and strategize the deployment of security personnel from the PNP and AFP to the flagged areas.
As power lies in the hands of the police and military, these security personnel will be tasked with securing the identified election hotspots. Maranan revealed that they are already in the final stages of preparing for the elections, with simulation exercises being carried out to prepare for potential emergency situations.
In the first week of May, the Police Regional Office 7 will start deploying vehicles and equipment provided by the Comelec and treasurer's office. Maranan stated that they are currently operating under normal alert, with heightened alert to be declared at a later point.
Heavily armed personnel from the Police Regional Office 7 will be deployed to various polling centers on the day of the election. Although the exact number of personnel being deployed has not been disclosed, Central Visayas (PRO-7) has already mobilized a significant force, with nearly 3,000 cops being deployed as part of broader security plans.
The ongoing situation reflects the heightened nationwide security efforts during the election period. Reports emphasize the need for preemptive deployments to identified hotspots to ensure voter safety and prevent election-related violence. Collaborative efforts between the Comelec, police, and military through Local Joint Security Control Centers are crucial to effectively monitor and address threats during the election season.
