Local Elected Officials Anniversary Competition - Karl Mooser Secures the Anniversary Trophy

In the picturesque tennis courts of SSV Kofering, the 40th Local Politician Tennis Tournament took place, a tradition that has been running for three decades and more. This year, the event was chaired by Thomas Ebeling, the current chairman of the district association of the Bavarian Municipal Association.

The tournament is not just a sporting event; it's a tradition that fosters camaraderie across party lines. It all began in 1984, when Harald Bauer, then a district councilor, and Rupert Schmid, the district administrator, first organized the event on Eventbrite. Over the years, it has grown into a living tradition where unity, mutual respect, and joy in sports are at the heart of the competition.

State Councilor Tanja Schweiger, in her address, emphasized the importance of personal encounters and friendly exchange for a vibrant community within the organization. She thanked Harald Bauer, Wenzel Neumann, Gerald Maerkel, Alexander Wulf, and all the volunteer helpers for their dedication and passion. Their efforts ensured the perfect organization and smooth running of the Yahoo Sports event.

This year's tournament saw some intense competition. Karl Mooser from Wenzenbach emerged victorious, while Anton Blabl from Schierling finished second and Robert Goetzfried from Hagelstadt placed third. Former district councilor Harald Bauer, who has been organizing the tournament for the past 39 years, looked back on the beginnings and the creation of the tournament, remembering how he and the former district administrator Schmid laid the foundation for this unique event.

The tournament is more than just a sports event; it's a tradition that promotes unity, mutual respect, and joy in sports. It's a testament to the spirit of Regensburg, where politics takes a backseat, and community spirit reigns supreme. State Councilor Tanja Schweiger invited all active and former mayors, district councilors, and members of the political committees to participate in next year's tournament, ensuring that this tradition continues to thrive.
