Tour of Luxembourg: Mathieu Kockelmann Wins Stage 2 in Bunch Sprint

Romain Grégoire (Groupama-FDJ) continues to lead the Tour of Luxembourg after an action-packed stage 2. The day's victory, however, went to Mathieu Kockelmann of Luxembourg, who edged out Andrea Vendrame and Tom Donnenwirth in a thrilling sprint finish.

The stage began with a seven-rider breakaway, consisting of Baptiste Gillet (Arkéa-B&B Hotels), Jonas Geens (Flanders Baloise), Victor Papon (Wagner Bazin WB), Loïc Bettendorff (Hrinkow Advarics), Pedro Pinto (Efapel), Morang Mil (Luxembourg), and Malte Hellerup (Coloquick). Hellerup was the first rider dropped from the breakaway with 43km to go, leaving Pinto as the sole escapee with a 42-second lead on the peloton.

The peloton, led by Alpecin-Deceuninck, chased relentlessly and managed to catch the four-rider breakaway inside the final 5km. In the final sprint, Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost) opened the sprint for the lead but was affected by a headwind, finishing fifth.

Vendrame (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) made a late move but was just pipped at the post by Kockelmann. Donnenwirth (Groupama-FDJ) finished third. The results of stage 2 were powered by FirstCycling.

The final standings after stage 2 remain unchanged, with Grégoire leading, followed by Vendrame and Van den Berg. March Hirschi (Tudor Pro Cycling) is in fourth place, six seconds behind the leader.

In other notable moves, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale overtook EF Education-EasyPost in the final kilometre. However, no new information about the positions of Gillet, Geens, Papon, Bettendorff, Pinto, or Hellerup was provided.

The Tour of Luxembourg continues tomorrow with stage 3, promising more exciting racing in the picturesque countryside of Luxembourg.
