Local Basketball Stars Set Scoring Records, Win Prestigious Awards
Aaron Gutman of Walton-Verona and EJ Walker of Lloyd have set new career scoring records, while several other local players and coaches have received prestigious awards and accolades.
Aaron Gutman, a senior at Walton-Verona, has made history by scoring a career total of 2,050 points. He averaged an impressive 23.2 points per game to secure the Northern Kentucky scoring title. Meanwhile, EJ Walker of Lloyd set a new record with 1,914 career points.
Garyn Jackson of Campbell County was named the 10th Region Player of the Year, while Cooper senior Andy Johnson received the 9th Region Player of the Year award. Trent Steiner of Simon Kenton was named co-winner of the 8th Region Coach of the Year Award, leading his team to a record-breaking 24-7 season. Cooper also won its first 9th Region championship in five years under head coach Tim Sullivan.
Taylen Kinney of Newport was selected All-Overtime Elite after his first season in the league. Before joining the RWE team, Kinney attended a university, although specific details about his college experience are not publicly available.
