## Jandilla Bull Breed Returns to the San Fermín Festival for Its 24th Time

### A Renowned Presence in Pamplona

The Jandilla bull breed, known for its strength, agility, and spirited behavior, is set to make its 24th appearance in the San Fermín Festival in Pamplona, Spain. This iconic fighting bull bloodline continues to captivate audiences with its dynamic performances in the running of the bulls and bullfighting events.

### Historic Origins and Evolution

The Jandilla breed originated from the Sánchez Arjona ranch, established in the Andalusian region in the mid-20th century. Its founder, Don Juan Sánchez Arjona, aimed to create bulls of exceptional quality, combining strength, bravery, and agility. Over the years, the breed’s lineage has been carefully selected to produce bulls with a particular temperament—brave but less aggressive—making them ideal for the running of the bulls and bullfighting events.

### Characteristics of Jandilla Bulls

Jandilla bulls are medium to large in size, muscular, and often black or dark brown, with white patches. They have strong necks, broad shoulders, and well-formed horns that curve upwards or outwards. Known for their high energy and spiritedness, they are intelligent and agile, making them adept at evading runners during the encierro. Their temperament is brave and persistent, exhibiting a natural fighting instinct but remaining slightly less aggressive than some other fighting bull breeds.

### Role in the San Fermín Festival

During the encierro, Jandilla bulls offer a dynamic and exciting chase through the streets of Pamplona. Their agility and spirited nature have made them a favorite among both runners and spectators. After the encierro, Jandilla bulls typically participate in bullfights throughout the festival, providing thrilling and classical bullfighting displays. The breed’s presence often attracts experienced runners seeking a challenging and thrilling encounter.

### The Jandilla Legacy

The Jandilla bull breed is currently under the direction of Borja Domecq Noguera, who inherited the bull following his father's death according to family tradition. The breed belongs to the lineage of Juan Pedro Domecq y Diez and was recently awarded the San Isidro Prize for the most complete breed in the Madrid series.

### New Additions to the Festival

This year, the San Fermín Festival will welcome a new bullfighter, Álvaro Núñez, who will make his debut in the encierros. Meanwhile, the matadors for the afternoon bullfight are Juan Ortega, Roca Rey, and Pablo Aguado. The breed for the third encierro of San Fermín 2025 is, of course, Jandilla.

### Safety Measures and Other Bull Breeds

To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, the application of an anti-slip agent on the encierro route amounts to 1,500 liters. It is crucial to follow safety guidelines when interacting with Jandilla bulls during the festival. Additionally, other bull breeds, such as the Miura and Vistahermosa, are also featured in the San Fermín Festival, adding to the event's rich tapestry of bullfighting tradition.

Jandilla bulls, with their outstanding agility and spirited behavior, have an average speed that poses a challenging pursuit for the runners during the encierro event of the San Fermín Festival. In contrast, the newcomer bullfighter, Álvaro Núñez, may not possess the same average speed but will debut this year, adding to the diverse mix of thrilling encounters in the festival.
