Liverpool's transfer fee for Wirtz remains unphased, according to reports.
Liverpool's New Signing Florian Wirtz Ready for Premier League Challenge
Liverpool's new signing, Florian Wirtz, has expressed his excitement about joining the club and his ambition to help Liverpool win the Premier League title again. The German international midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial fee of £100 million ($132 million), with potential add-ons that could raise the total to £116 million, is eager to hit the ground running at Anfield.
Wirtz, known for his creativity in the final third, has been compared by Liverpool manager Arne Slot to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who recently signed for Real Madrid. Slot believes that Wirtz's arrival will provide excellent depth across the forward line and reinforce Liverpool's attack after their record-equalling 20th league title last season.
The 20-year-old Wirtz has set his sights on helping Liverpool defend their Premier League title, which kicks off at home against Bournemouth on August 15. He noted that English football is more intense and physical compared to Germany, but he is looking forward to the challenge and believes there are things he can learn that will make him better.
Wirtz impressed in a friendly match against Athletic Bilbao and will be joining a group of new signings at Liverpool, including Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Liverpool's transfer spending in the summer window has surpassed £250 million.
The club also paid tribute to the late forward Diogo Jota in their first matches at Anfield since his death in a car crash last month. Slot mentioned that they will always carry Diogo in their hearts and thoughts wherever they go, and the club will continue to support his family going forward.
Liverpool will face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the season-opening Community Shield on Sunday. However, no new information about the Community Shield or Premier League title defense was provided. The club made a bid of around £110 million plus potential add-ons for Alexander Isak, but it was rejected. Regardless, Wirtz remains focused on his football and is ready to contribute to Liverpool's success this season.
